Hint to replace the crankcase vent tube?

Hi everyone:
I broke the neck of the plastic crankcase vent tube that attached to the top valve cover when I replaced the cover gasket. The oil leak is now fixed but I can't find any way/position to reach and undo the other end of the vent tube (at the oil separator end?). There seems to be no room to work around this area. Could someone gives me a hint so that I can replace the broken crankcase tube? Any special tool? I hesitate to force or pry anything here because these tubes are old and very brittle.
Thanks!

If one hose is broken, the others are right behind.

Best to replace the entire CCV and all the hoses.

Not for an X5, but very close - Pelican BMW Technical Article - Crankcase Breather Valve Replacement - BMW 325i (2001-2005), BMW 325Xi (2001-2005), BMW 325Ci (2001-2006), BMW 325ti (2001-2004)

I just did the CCV job, prep yourself for major PITA
And guys are right - if tubes are cracking - they're all like that from heat and age so it is good idea to replace the CCV kit.

I'll echo the others, it's probably time for a CCV refresh. It's not a fun job but it's not the worst either. I removed my alt and did the oil filter housing gasket at the same time, which gave me room to remove hose #2. Sorry, I don't know the trick to doing it without removing everything.

Que the CCV drama

^+1, best approach. Get all the obvious problems resolved at once.

In the short term, duct tape may buy you some time.

As everyone is posting, if your x has not had the CCV / oil separator replaced, now is your chance. Pull it all out and the job is not too bad. Lots of info on DIY efforts posted here on the forum. The only tip I can suggest is to clean out the tube in the dip stick tube with a weed wacker line as it tends to muck up.
There are "cold weather" upgrade parts that will last another 8 years and 80k. One time fix in your life.....
Good luck
