RB/J...good dig!
Not giving out tasks, but I know you are very handy.
If you get around to giving it a try and are successful, you will become the blower motor fix maven here on this board!

On one of our summer runs to NJ to see our Kidz, I need to plug in an extra day and spend it in your driveway/garage, with you and our '01 tired ol' X.
BR, mD

My X is sitting in the garage waiting for my to finish the oil pan gasket... Here's a picture looking towards the fan with the cabin air filter housing removed... only problem is the squirrel cage is blocking access to the bearing. Perhaps you could bend a u-shaped piece of soft copper (1/4" refrigeration line) to get in there.

Now we are getting somewhere boys - use of lubricant with a straw and perhaps a carefully bent piece of hollow wire (copper) as mentioned might be the ticket - David.X5, if this can be done, what do you think you would try to spray on the bearing, probably 3-in-1 or maybe some dry graphite lube?

mD - the garage is always open for you my friend, and thanks for the compliment on being handy, I try my best, problem nowadays is finding the downtime to actually wrench in the garage, I've had a friggin fuel filter on my workbench waiting to go in for 2 months now - between work, hitting the gym and keeping myself in shape so the wife doesn't go find a man with more money, and fall leaf/property cleanup along with motorcycle and wifes ride maintenance its hard to have a few hours to myself and the X! Haha

David right above me, you may as well wipe down/vaccuum the fine dust you can see, anything that is getting sucked into the blower motor is bound to accumulate and clog it up - probably could be a yearly maintenance thing to remove the cabin filter housing and make sure there isn't any fine dust/dirt getting past the filter to the blower motor

Another theory which I don't know if it would work as I don't have it open - drill an access hole somewhere which would give access to the middle of the blower motor if you can in order to clean out dust/debris and spray some lubricant, then plug the access hole with a 1" body plug found at an auto parts store

Since you would be working "blind" I would use a lube rated for electrical equipment - no sense shorting out the motor windings while trying to grease the bearings! There may be others, but I have this one - that is rated for electrical contacts - "CRC 02094 Silicone Lube, Electrical". Not very expensive (less than $10). Available online. There are some very high quality greases made for motor bearings, but think we are limited to what we can get in a spray can.

It gets better! There are two ducts going from the cabin filter housing into the cabin. The picture above is the left side (US drivers) opening. Decided to stuff my phone into the right side opening today and take another picture - its a clear shot to the bearing. Even looks like someone spritzed some lithium grease on mine at some point! Easy-peasy.

Wow David great job and thank you so much for posting! I'll look into the Silicone lube you posted that is CRC and safe for electrical, or I may look into something with Teflon - I have the DuPont Teflon stuff from Lowes which works great but it doesnt spray well - I do like the newer WD-40 style cans which have the integrated hose built in the top and it doesnt fall off - although I probably wouldn't lubricate the bearing with WD40 I may use the Silicone

David - That's awesome! Depending on what happens with mine I may have to do this. Much easier than replacing it!

^Shoot even if you have to lubricate every 6 months preventatively, if you can keep the bearing from going dry you may be able to add years to the blower motor

Ricky - Heck yes. This would be easy preventative maintenance. And if you're replacing the cabin air filter at the same time, that's one piece out of the way.

^Yep - I replace my cabin filter yearly and clean out the opening once a year anyway so its easy to spray a bit of lubricant on the blower motor - definitely get something quick drying though and be sure to wait until it dries before starting the X so you dont blow lubricant into the cabin

David.X5 thanks for the awesome investigation and pics!
