Okay, did a little (emphasis little) reading on it... looks like if you have not had a failure yet it can prevented by rerouting the vacuum hose.
Going to pull the booster vacuum hose and check for oil. If there is none, I'm going to see about rerouting it, put a "catch can" inline, or check for updated parts. BTW... And this made me feel A LOT better, you don't lose braking. You only lose power assist. *phew* Edit: Just looked up the e53 (4.8is) braking system vs the e70 (4.8i) braking system and they use all different parts and routing according to realoem. Is that correct? I looked up a 11/05 e53 and 10/06 e70... am I missing something? Edit x2: Here's the link to the NHTSA recall doc by BMW. Going to check the X5 tomorrow to see if the vacuum lines are run similar to the E70's. So I'm guessing part numbers 4 and 6 are the lines that need to be replaced?
