(Cheapo) Rebuild transmission vs. remanufactured vs. new?

You can get a remanufactured from ZF for around the $3500 mark. I would bite the bullet and and move on with your vehicle. By the way more than likely that X5 had the trans problems before you purchased it and is probably one of the reasons it ended up for sale. Escpecially since it had the air suspension woes.

I suspect you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! The transmission issues are scant and occasional so we kinda MISSED them in the PPI. Silver lining is the vehicle should be well sorted once the transmission is "fixed". At least until something else goes out! Still waiting for old maint. records which should help some...

On high end cars that uses a ZF trans he only use ZF OEM parts, he does not use cheaper after market parts. Look at his video on the teardown of a ZF 5hp24.

THANKS for the referral I may seek his advice etc. And you are right about BMWs they are not CHEAP and they are enigmatic...which really makes it interesting! Amazing machine in motion though...

Is it too late for you to get an extended warranty? Usually your able to within first 2-3 months of purchasing the car.

Good idea but I believe it is too much $$$ and will have to wait a certain time period for service. I will check though THANKS!

I got a quote for myself with car check since my mechanic says he puts in claims with them pretty often and gets good results overall. Roughly 5-5500 for 3 years 36k. they told me I have to wait 1000 miles and I think 30 days before I can put in a claim.
