DIS v57 running on Windows 10 and VMware

Has anyone got this to work? I am building another diagnostics laptop based on Windows 10 because I fear my XP machine is on its last leg....

I used one of the Romanian one-click install packages and it seems as everything works except for DIS - although I have not hooked the laptop up to the car yet. I start the DIS VM and get SCO nearly booted all the way up, but then VMware barfs on it. The other package (SSS Progman) which runs in VMware as well works just fine.

I can get the same .vmdk for DIS to run under Oracle Virtualbox just fine - I just have absolutely no clue how to reconfigure diagnostics head to use the non-VMware virtual network interface.

I've contacted the seller a few times and has offered a little advise but I think he's leading me down the wrong path and basically says - sorry I can't help beyond what I've already suggested.

His advise was suggesting my problem was not having some Intel virtualization support turned-on in the BIOS. It's turned on.

Anyway I'd really like the full set of tools on this better-laptop I have because it's a far better machine and hopefully won't be so damn pokey and slow...

I am fairly tech savvy but am a bit out of practice. I did UNIX systems administration the first 10 years of my career but have not been immersed in doing such things daily since about 2008.

I have mine running on 7 64bit. Win7 is much closer in to Win8/10 than XP. Its certain minor things that are changed around most likely not causing it to work, for example certain file locations/paths etc.

Are you using the latest vmware or the one included on his disks? If so i would try to source newest vmware off *cough* internet, and try importing the vm's into there.

Lookup on google also if theres a guide on Win8 setups as thats the most similar to 10.

Quick google search on your error message shows I was heading in the right direction about latest VM workstation, id try that first if its not already.

DIS v57 running on Windows 10 and VMware

Yeah. I tried the upgrade path initially when I was getting that error. I tried VMware workstation 12 for a bit and it wouldn't even begin to load the vmdk when I tried it out. I was getting better results with the included version of VMware workstation which was version 6.5.

I may end-up and circle back around and give that another "go" - maybe I can find some different settings or something?

Wow!!!! Looks like I got it working under VMware workstation 10!

I had to delete some of the old policies and do a little network fiddling but I think I've got it!!!

Looks like DIS is connected to the head. Off to visit the car now!!!

Sweet. You guys ever have issues sometimes getting DIS connection to link up? And it takes 3-4 tries of redoing the steps of launching it?

Talking about top colored bar in above post by battery icon which is for connection signal, mine sometimes wont be on and have to retry. I know something is off with my DIS though from moving stuff around on the pc, too lazy to redo it recently though.

Yup. Totally! Sometimes it seems like you've gotta shut the VM-down and re-launch everything cold.

Where are you getting v57 of DIS and how far up the food chain does it go (e.g., 2011, 2015, ?)?
