Unhappy Gutted doesnt even cover how i feel today

Soooo.... as some of you may know from welcoming me aboard this fantastic forum that i recently brought myself a beauty of a x5, she is the 4.6 v8 model on brc lpg wearing a 52 plate with a very high spec list and came with fsh and every mot / reciept from new

well, after only owning the car about 3 weeks i had some numpty hit me up the rear, over £3k worth of damage (mainly bumper, god there expensive from bmw) but the blokes insurance paid out and a few weeks later happy days i was back on the road... but that hapiness wasnt to last

A few weeks ago just before xmas i started the car to warm it up as normal before the kiddies school run, all was fine and then all of a sudden i could here this funny faint rattling noise coming from the engine, popped the bonnet and out i jumped.... by the time i got from my seat to the front of the car to lift the bonnet the faint rattle had turned into a major rattle, quickly ran and turned engine off and though "ok that wasnt good, best get someone out" rang the local garage they sent someone to investigate and after starting the car he said straight away "your cam chain guide have broken mate" he them removed the sump and oy hes there they all were, little bits of plastic everywhere

Had a long think over xmas and got some repair qoutes (cheapest being nearly £2.5k) but sadly i just couldnt justify spending another £2.5k on a car i had just paid so much for knowing that even get back if i did fix and sell on i would be lucky to get what i originally paid

Now my poor baby sits on my drive and today took the huge leap and posted her for breaking on ebay, withing a few hours i had someone round buying parts, he brought a few of the stereo modules and the extended arch flares, i tell you what, seeing my pride and joy begin the start of its breaking process was a hard thing to watch

Id just like to say thankyou for all the great advice / tech help etc etc i have received on here and i will be 100% recommending this website to any x5 owners i meet in the future

Darren

see my original joining thread (link below) to see just what a beauty of a car she is, i hate the thought that i a few weeks time she will be a bare shell in a scrap yard

Wow that sucks. why not fix yourself for a fraction of the cost and keep on running another 100k miles.

That blows. No offense, but parting out a car, let alone an IS, over timing chains seems a little like an overreaction.

The way i see it is the car cost me £4250, if i was to fix the car for £2.5k thats means the x5 would have cost me a total of £6750 and then when i come to sell it on i may get my £4250 back if im lucky, obv having a repair like this done to a car will help it sell on but it doesnt really add value to a car, so in all id be loosing that £2500 id just spent on repairs

by parting it out ill make my £4250 back alot easier without having to find the £2.5k to repair it, the wheels alone are fetching around £1200 over here and think i have already managed to sell these, someone coming out friday, sold the arch extensions and a couple of little radio parts today for another £300+.... someone wants to come at the weekend and have the front / rear bumpers for £600 the pair.... so if matey comes for the wheels then so far today alone i have managed to sell £2100 in parts, not bad for the first day i suppose

still doest make it any easier to have to break it as the car is in perfect condition but i have already brought my new car so need to recoup as much money as possible to cover what i spent on that.... or i will be in the dog house with the missis lol

my new car:

Big spec impreza

Very sad to hear! It was a beautiful car! That Subaru looks damn nice though, bet it goes like stink!

I remember from time in the UK, that cars do drop in value very quickly, and everyone wants a new one.

If you could remove and get the front seats onto a ship to get them to me in Perth, I would buy them!

You wouldn't really be losing the money. In return, you do get use of a vehicle for your money. Especially with a BMW, I think it is a lofty goal to drive one for 'free' no matter what it cost in the first place.

But.. your car, your choices.
