Not sure. At any rate, with a beam failure I would suspect it to only affect one side. Since both sides do it simultaneously... I'd focus on things that can affect both sides. Leveling control module (if yours is equipped) under glovebox and LCM are the only 2 things that come to mind.

Dipped beam is low beam.
Did you get water in the LKM from a sunroof drain blockage?

Nope not that I know of. For now I'm reacting to it probably being a gremlin in my LCM but I won't just go and replace or repair it until it starts coming up more.

Did your car come with factory xenon? I have the same issue with my E36, I think it's an issue with my halogen wiring not being good enough. I'm going to make a relay harness to see if that fixes it.

We have been driving with Xenon HID headlamps in our Halogen standard X for 12 years and not had any problems. As far as I can tell the harness is the same for both vehicles and the only real difference is with the programming in the LKM and the self-leveling system.

I actually have a custom relay harness from a Toyota 4Runner project in my spares drawer.

Yep factory xenon - and I emailed the guy who does GM5 repairs and he said the 2003 LKM is very robust they rarely fail, especially if I had no sunroof leakage, wet carpet etc -

I will continue to monitor, only thing I'm theorizing is that one of ballasts is softly failing and freaking out the LCM

Hmmm happened again while driving to pick my mother in law up from the airport today - I didn't see the off and on sequence since it was raining and just overcast but my headlights were on, I only noticed when the CHECKLOWBEAMS came on the dash - both headlights stayed on, however, once again -

I mean its a nice excuse to drop $115 on Nightbreaker bulbs, but I don't think the bulbs would be doing this as they are functional -

Have you pulled the rocker molding and the front to take a look at your LCM? Maybe move it around while the car is on and see if you can trigger the beam failure. Or see some signs of water intrusion or loose wire/connection or something.

Doesn't take long and is worth a shot. That would annoy me to no end.

Yeah I'm going to inspect LCM connectors for any past moisture - maybe pull it completely and pull the board out to see if I can see any issues -

I've been reading threads all day and only thing I've found is one guy said his LED license plate bulbs would freak the LCM out, and another guy had a loose connection which I don't have -

Got any extra old ballast to swap in to see if the problem goes away.

'03 LCM went south around 50-60K.
It was very obvious thought. Symptoms would be , care was turned off, brake lights if not lows would stay solid on. Etc, etc. Can't recall the other wine notes but it was clearly the LCM at fault.

Chasing a gremlin - which I can't recall, but similar to yours I think.....to be frank, it's been so long, but buying new ballast I do know made the problem go away...
