Which radio tuner / harness is this?

If I'm not mistaken my 2000 BMW X5 4.4i non-DSP w/factory NAV has a BM54 diversity tuner which uses the new style 40 pin connector pictured here:

I know I have a Alpine BMW E53 Amp 65.12-8 379 376 pictured here:

So I'm not sure if this is the Becker BM54 but looks like it is the old style round pin 17 pin connector not the new style flat 40 pin connector...

It looks like the round style to me as well. Just pop it off real quick with a flathead screwdriver and check it out to be sure though. I think you have the necessary room there to pop it off without removing the radio and other harnesses.

If the question is do you have round or flat pin harness...the flat pin harness starts with 10/2001 build date.

OK my build date was in late 1999 so this makes sense.

Wish I realized this earlier because I hacked my Eonon round pin harness (I should have preserved that one and hacked the flat pin one instead) in case I want to run the 5M extension cable. Oh well I can always piece it back together if necessary or get the conversion harness.

Does anyone know how/why I have a 36-pin Harmon Kardon connector for my non-DSP w/NAV "Alpine" E53 Amp? Are they / were they part of the same parent company?

According to this post I should have a 12-pin connector.

Inside the black plastic cage I ejected from the amp I can see that there are actually two (2) connectors as stated in the DIY (one black, one grey). I'm guessing the early e53 models with 4:3 nav (as this one was) had this configuration. I think this post confirms that the 2000-2001 e53 w/NAV had a "special" radio control unit as well. It makes mention of the "top hi-fi" amplifier which is what I beleive I have. Here is the wiring diagram but it is unclear to me which pin would be for remote switched 12V ACC to turn on the amp.

Anyone have a full pinout diagram for these plugs with wire color coding? Here is the one referenced in the DIY post but doesn't have any pin labels (just german language color markings...)

I have already tapped (years ago) the Left/Right sub +/- signals to the line level input of my MTX sub amp along with the white wire to remotely power it on. If I supply 12V power to the white wire I assume it will turn on the amps? What I can tell from the diagram is that the white wire (WS) located at pin #4 goes to the old style 17-pin round pin connector (X18126) pin #16. I believe this confirms that whatever remotely powers either the AMP and/or the RCU relays in a daisy chain fashion to the other.

I believe if I connect a 12V power source to either pin it should power-on both my amps and RCU. Connecting the remote 12V ACC wire from my aftermarket (Eonon GA5166F) head unit should fire it all up when I hit the power button on the unit.

I figured out a way around running a new remote wire. I can simply hijack one of the X18802 wires that terminates at the violet/maroon colored 18-pin MK IV DVD Nav connector (X1313).

I have identified a safe candidate for hijacking. For example there are 3 wires dedicated for the positive (+) signal for the Red, Green, and Blue (composite) video signals alone that go straight to the rear of the vehicle and terminate. They are are 0,35mm (equivalent to 22AWG) which should be sufficient to carry the small amount of load (couple amps max) that the head unit remote wire will generate to keep the equipment on (easily measurable with multimeter) across the 16 foot or so wire length in the loom. What else is nice is that I can easily just jump this pin to my amp harness and I should be good to go.

The Eonon has built in file based Navigation, Google Maps, WAZE, etc... so I have no interest in preserving the stock NAV system - however it would be really easy to undo the taps and just revert back to a completely stock setup. I will probably just AirPlay my iPhone screen anyway. The stock board monitor has already been unplugged so this channel should be free and clear.

^If after MM readings it turns out to be too small to carry the load... just use that wire to trigger a relay. Same result, but takes all the load (well, almost all... relays are what 35mA?) off of that signal wire.

I think you're right though. 22AWG should handle what you are asking of it unless you are triggering a whole host of amps, eq's, etc.
