Eonon Pics Installed

Made my ride home from Tahoe last night much more enjoyable.

I've got a Verizon iPhone 6S with unlimited 4G LTE data and Wifi Hotspot. Tethering between the GA5166F is easy and works like a charm.

I keep a lot of offline music on Spotify on my phone to free up the data connection. No issues with the bluetooth pairing or connection between my iPhone and the GA5166F. Steering wheel controls work perfectly to skip through the tracks. I'm glad I got the quad core CPU 16GB unit if you are doing something intensive like installing apps or something the audio can "skip" for a second. I can only image how much worse this would be on a dual core CPU tablet.

I loaded up Waze on my phone so I have the police warning announcements and audible directions in the background. This keeps the main 7" screen on the Eonon head unit available for playing.

My favorites so far would be ESPN, Sling TV, Slingbox, and HBOGO for stuff to have on for watching in the background. I like listening to news and sports on the TuneIn radio app too. Makes for a much better driving experience.

I haven't connected and mounted the GPS antenna yet so location based apps (i.e. weather channel, etc...) aren't working.

Haven't messed with Torque yet but i'm sure it will work well with my bluetooth OBDII dongle (it did on my Samsung Galaxy Note II). I'll probably buy the PRO version for $5.

Possibilities are endless - wish I had this years ago!! Brings the X5 tech into the 2010's and beyond! Even my dads Audi A7 doesn't have touchscreen!

Have any daytime pics? Is this unit compatible with dsp or no? Looks fairly oem from night pics.

Thanks man! Yeah I saw the GA5166X not sure what the difference is maybe it's just a newer version of their custom ROM? Hardware specs appear to be the same.

I'm very happy with my choice it's exactly what I wanted but then again I am a techie so I've been into hacking android and programming apps for years. I wouldn't recommend it for those who want plug and play fool proof.

I think the information I've posted here should help anyone with stock NAV looking to do the install as long as they don't mind getting their hands dirty a little bit but definitely not for the faint of heart.

Not sure about DSP but I would imagine you can splice the inputs in the same fashion I did with non-DSP.

I have the pumpkin equivalent. Is exactly the same, just boxed differently. Torque application that's pre-installed is the paid version. Also I mounted my gps antenna on the top of the metal bar behind the unit (is magnetic and sticks fine.) The GPS finds a signal very quickly and works well. (Has IGO primo which is excellent).

I have had mine for 6 months now and very happy with it.

Right on and thanks for the tip on the GPS antenna I was going to try to mount it behind the windshield middle since I was concerned about signal quality but guessing if my phones can get a fix easily indoors then an external antenna should have no problem. I think that technology has come a long way. Originally I was going to run a coax cable to the rear and use the antenna embedded in the rear side window but I'm trying to avoid ripping out my interior entirely. I might coil the wire around the metal bar to further improve the signal and keep things tidy. Didn't even realize it was magnetic figured I'd have to put some decent double sided adhesive tape on there or velcro.

It would be more work to route the wire and hide it behind the dash. Did that for my V1 hardwire was a little bit of a beeyatch.

Glad you are still happy with your unit. What is IGO Primo? Cell service? Is this unit GPS or aGPS (like most android I've seen). GPS is better and doesn't require cellular service for triangulation fix but also consumes more power (which doesn't matter much for this application). The GPS app on the Eonon seems pretty pro. There are many good ones on Play Store too like GPS Status.

Igo Primo is a GPS application/service like Waze. One of the better ones from what I've read. I still tend to stick to Google Maps though... that's what I ran on the Avin tethered to my phone.

IMHO Google maps routes and re-reoutes are better but Waze has the advantage of police and safety warnings so I tend to use Waze for longer trips vs. around town.

IGO Primo is the GPS software that came with the Pumpkin unit. Absolutely brilliant program. It even gives me street numbers as you are driving down the road. Mine came pre-installed on a micro SD card (which fits in the top left corner of the unit)

Cell Service (what we Aussies call mobile phone service) Is via a usb dongle. I just use wifi to install stuff.
