2001 x5 Headlight Lenses Re-Do

Finally worked up the nerve to re-do the plastic lenses on our 2001 X5. Ever since a vacation to Cape Cod, the headlights have yellowed and looked sand-blasted. I decided to use the kit from 3M - the kit includes everything you need - velcro backed sanding pads, wet sanding pad, foam buffing pad, rubbing compound, and a velcro round attachment for your drill - you need a water squirt bottle and micro fiber rags. I have attached before and after pictures - sorry nothing in between - but the directions are simple - and step by step with good pictures - I used one kit on each headlight as the first was really opaque looking. Took about 3-4 hours. I can't believe I waited this long - its like a face lift for a car as the car looks a lot younger then its almost 14 years and 156,000 miles.

Bine!! YOu chose wisley with the 3M kit, its what i use on many cars as well. But basically all you need is just sandpaper and stuff thats in the kit which may be cheaper, But the kit is just enough and its easy since already velcro backed and everything.

I followed the instructions here:

Headlight Restoration Guide - Subaru Legacy Forums

The urethane / mineral spirits step did wonders. I couldn't believe how clear the lights look after this step. It's worlds better than before sealing. Huge difference. And it's very easy (I was concerned this step would be difficult but it's not).
