A crack you can see, warp you can tell and leak point you can find. I would remove the valve cover and verify the cause of the problem.

My guess is if you use an OE gasket, install as recommended by BMW and torque down the cover in the proper sequence it won't leak. OE gasket is cheap compared to tearing it down again.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Bcredliner, I'm going to remove the valve cover and see perhaps in the next couple of weeks when the weather warms up a bit. Car is sitting in the garage for now so it's not an urgent work...

Make sure you get all the rubber grommets as well. Many of after leaks can be traced to poor install or not replacing the bolt grommets.

I actually changed those last time i did the valve cover gasket but yeah considering they are $.30/each, i'll change them again.
