Steering Joint ?'s

Hi Guys,

My steering has been squeaky and clicky/clunky lately. I read this thread:

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...nt-photos.html

It sounds like my issue is the double joint so I ordered it from ECS. Last night I went to install it and got the old one out. Definitely was the problem. When I inspected the joint is squeaked and did not rotate smoothly.

So I go to put the new one in and I realize that the new one is a hex portion up top, and the old one was a round/square connection. My X is old (build date of 09/2000), so I know some have this old joint. However, I can not find any like mine online to order. Does anyone know the part #? Please tell me I do not need to replace my entire steering column. I lubed the old one up and put it back in and the steering is a little better, but still clicks/clunks when turning.

Thanks for any help.

I think ECS has made an error as they show all models years using the same shaft but that does not match up the real OEM info.

Later models use
Double joint, Application 02/2002 to 10/2003, PN# 32306758076 $309.78

Double joint, Application 10/2003 up, PN # 32306762277 $309.78

What the difference in the later years I have no idea.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help. The one I got is part# 32306762277 for $204.94 from ECS.

I think I need 32306762147 which includes the upper part. At least this is what the dealership told me, but they have made mistakes before.

Has anyone replaced this?? Any tips?
