Sun shades for E53 rear doors
I'm looking at fitting some sun shades to the rear doors of my 2005 3.0d X5 as I've got a baby on the way. I was considering chasing down some genuine x5 sunshades from a wreckers or ebay but just wondering if its worth it and are they a real pain to fit? Does the interior of the door need to come off etc. Or I did see this solution, seems pretty quick and easy to fit, also pretty cost effective. I have the sunshades on my X and really like them. My daughter still likes to wear sunglasses or a floppy hat but the shades definitely keep the sun from being so harsh.
In terms of installation, I'm no help. My X came with them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You do need to open the door cards to install them but it's a straight forward job. I've taken them out and in again when replacing both rear door carriers.

Have them on our current e53 (no tint), and didn't have them on our previous one (tinted). They are a definite plus for the vehicle. We have an LO as well and the shades are a god send. Especially if you have no tint. We were planning to immediately get this one tinted too, but the shades do such a good job we keep putting it off.
As for installation... I'm no help. I can't imagine it being that difficult, but I'd also imagine the door panel has to come off. That is only a 10 minute job though so it shouldn't be too painful.

You definitely have to take the door panel off to put the sun shade in, and you might need a different door panel altogether. I don't know what the non-shade versions look like, but there needs to be a space for the shade to come out of the panel (obviously). Also, you'll need the clips at the top of the window, which might not fit on the seal of a non-shade door. Again, i don't know what a non-shade door looks like. I would just compare shade and non-shade on RealOEM to see what parts differ.

I had to change the door panels to ones with shades and to drill some holes into the upper window frames to mount the triangle shade and the hooks. But so far nothing to complicated. I do not believe you could put shades in with the original panels.
