Just found the article on surge, vs electronic, vs none. Looking to pull a 12x6 uhaul. I'm guessing they use surge?

Most uHauls have surge. If you need a controller, I highly recommend the Tekonsha Wireless unit. I have that and it's pretty slick. No wiring into the vehicle. Mount the unit on the trailer, pair it up, plug in trailer to unit and unit to car, set your bias and go.

UHaul trailer has surge brakes. Make sure to check air pressure of the tires and set them to the max on the sidewall. Also, carry a pipe wrench to tighten the ball clamp down. They tend to loosen up on UHauls in my experience. Cross your safety chains when you hook them up ("X").

Give yourself more time for everything and swing wide on your turns.

Agree - they do very little maintenance on their trailers. I had a tire grenade on me while towing my track car. Check everything closely.

I have installed quite a few of these, they are nice and work well, and a bonus is you can move it from vehicle to vehicle. I personally prefer the p3 that's what I have in my Dodge pickup and in my E53, I have seen people steal the wireless units right off the front of the trailer.

Ugh, that's comforting. For rental trailers, I zip tie mine on with the massive zip ties, so I can easily remove and put on if needed. For the trailer I'm building, I'll look to make a more permanent method of attaching it

have you looked into just putting a BC in the X5? The wireless and the P2 are the same thing, I went with the P3 as I pull multiple different trailers and there are presets you can select. Its not that difficult to install a permanent BC, Mine is in the center console so you cant even see it.

If the brake controller/power module is stolen the thief HAS to return it to tekonsha as THEY have pair a new remote to it. A buyer can not do it. Tekonsha is keeping theft down this way as they could take the brake controller and send it backvgo rightful owner really... so make sure you register your product.
