Can I Add Lights To Mirror

hey all just a question i wanted to add the lights on the mirror. but i did'nt know if i can add a bulb and cut a hole in the cover? or do i need to buy the mirrors from a 4.6is or 4.8is> hope some one can help me out thanks.

I did buy new covers and saw how simple the mounting is. And an LEd could fit in a tiny hole...

But it's more complicated than that. I have a 2001 and I discovered it would need a newer light check module and coding to work. Figure out if you have the newer LCM3.

BTW...the lighted side mirrors were also offered on the 4.4...at least on the face lift.

yes i have a 4.4i but pre facelift that is why i ask if i can even do this.. i do know the part number of the LCM i do have 61 35 6 961 141 i dont know whice LCM that one is

My 2001 3.0i has the mirror lights, so a 2001 LCM should work?

I thought every X5 has it... I even have it...on 2002 3.0 diesel! I even have folding mirrors!
It should pre wired there!

ross do you know what part number you have on your LCM? because i think the part number i have is the LCM 2 and and davidx5 said we need LCM3.

i hope it is pre wired gato .. but i wish i could just use my cover so i dont need to get new covers painted lol

U know...I have not seen under door panel the car with out mirror light! I am thinking if your car is pre wired and I think it is and I think that wires are not behind mirror but they could be wrapped under door panel or even worse some where else! Like I had experience with pre wired wires for heated seats and rear seat adjustment! I had to take off carpet!
