Sprint Booster - not model dependent - might get one cheap

The point of this post isn't to debate the benefits or lack thereof of the Sprint Booster (throttle remapper). Some people love it - others don't get the point (plenty of threads discussing this). I used my sport mode exclusively in my old 6-speed mini cooper and wasn't too pleased with the throttle response of my new-to-me auto '06 3.0i so was looking into it but didn't want to pay the nearly $300 to try one out.

What I found was that despite the fact that most retailers list them with year and model, all the automatic BMWs 2001-2015 seemed to lead you to the same sprint booster part # (SBBM0002S). With that in mind I searched eBay for a cheap used one and came across a module pulled from a 2014 M5 and was able to win the auction at $5.51 ($9.51 with shipping). At this price point, to me it was worth taking a chance. It was missing the button cable that allows you to switch from off to smooth (green) to aggressive (red), but I found a website that had those new for $25 (make sure it has the same # of pins):

https://www.gmpperformance.com/index...ail&PID=232687

Hooked it up today and works as expected. Not a great improvement for an already somewhat unresponsive 3.0 but in the green mode, throttle response is definitely smoother or more even. It doesn't have the benefit that the sport mode on my 6-speed mini did, but to me it was definitely worth the $34 I paid for everything.

So if you are in the market for one but don't want to shell out $300, keep an eye out for a used one from any BMW '01-'15 (same transmission type) even if it's missing the button cable. It just might work out for you.
