He used a repair kit which is great because it saves us a lot of $$ - does the window lift smoother now and seem sturdier because of it

Yes, the wiring had bunched up and came unwound from the whole thing so the window completely fell to the bottom. Had to pull the whole lifter and replace wiring, main spool and springs. Went to install it and found the window regulator clip is now broke.....damn the luck! Oh well, have to wait a little longer til I get that clip.

^Yes that repair kit is great but you still need the $3 window clip from BMW as it will be beasted to hell

Any link to this repair kit? Might need it now that I'm about to start replacing all four black clips.

Here's a link to the one I got for mine. Make sure you get the right ones! The front and rear are different (Im pretty sure/clips too!) There are also other kits that are the metal/plastic mix if you want to stay that route. Your preference though.

$3? Is this at the dealer? If not, do you know where I can get it for $3? I can only find it for around $10 OEM.

Well I guess the rear clips are more expensive than the front - and price has went up a bit but $7 from ECS
