Rebuild the ccv whit cold weather version
I have found a previous thread about this subject are these part numbers still good for my vehicle ? are there updated versions ? and is this it ? do I need more parts ? If it gets cold - the cold weather dipstick guide tube is an updated design which eliminates the double wall - when I installed it, it definitely looked worth it to me - once you pull the factory one out you'll see that the drainback to the oil pan from the CCV has a very small place to go and could get clogged easily.
Yes that SIB is perfect, it has the CCV with both hoses, and the drain back hose which was also updated to be insulated, and the dipstick guide. 2 more parts you need in my opinion to do the job correct - a new hose which connects the CCV hose (S hose) to the manifold ("return pipe") and a new O-ring for the dipstick guide tube - 11617504536 - return pipe and 11431740045 - O-ring for dipstick tube Of course there are also "while its open" parts you can replace, or repair while you are in there. I chose to replace the Air Distributor piece on top of the manifold - https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E53-X5...sions/ES25494/ I also replaced the throttle body gasket preventatively, as well as the lower intake elbow as its prone to cracks. Inspect your vaccuum lines off that elbow as well, there are 2 of them, and it would be prudent to replace if they look worn. As well, you have very good access to inspect your alternator, perhaps replace the voltage regulator if necessary, and/or perform the OFHG replacement if you are noticing oil leaks. I replaced the CCV system with all the cold weather updated parts 2 years ago and she is running super strong and no oil consumption - plus when I removed it in 2014 the parts were stamped 2003 so I do expect approximately an 8-10 year service life from them - the last winter, I was pushing it and heard some wild noises from the CCV so I'd recommend 8 years at the most for service interval on the system - which is not bad at all to ensure a healthy crankcase ventilation system IMO. Hope that helps and best of luck - its a tight squeeze in there to replace it but its not a terribly hard job, just takes patience because a lot of it is R&R blindly because its up and under the manifold.

I have a new cold-weather dipstick laying on my bench, waiting to install.
I did this job on my 330i, same M54 engine. I removed the dipstick and cleaned both drain channels with welding wire and card cleaner, it's a really goofy design and clogs easily. When reinstalling the dipstick, do yourself a favor and install the new o-ring on the tube, about two or three inches from where it seats. It will slide into position when your install. If you put it into the recess on the pan, it can fall into the oil pan.

Yeah the first version of the oil dipstick is pretty bad. It took me about an hour to unclog it (without compressed air). I was trying to drill through the debris through the CCV return tube then I finally realized it was double walled and that I was trying to drill through steel. I would get the new one if I were you.

Since you are asking I would consider the CCV bypass, it has worked great for me, no oil loss or valve cover gasket leak anymore. Very simple also. Read up and make a decision.
