Control Arm Feedback (2004 4.4 x5)

Hey fellas,

I'd like to get your feedback on what to specifically pay attention to in fixing this tire tilt issue I'm having.

I've only changed 2 control arms (sway and lower) but not sure if maybe I need to tighten or replace another arm.

Thanks!

As you can see it's sort of inward.

About 9.9 inches from strut to first thread edge.

And about 10.6 inches on driver side from strut to first thread.

Perhaps that why the wheel camber is off, the car might have been in an accident.

Original BMW replacement part or some Cheap Crappy parts brought on eBay or Amazon???

Yes car was in accident. I purchased it as a project car (2 arms replaced with parts from Auto Zone) - so not sure.

Also - I thought camber was for rear wheels only? Can I get a link to see how it would be worked or what the terminology/parts are for me to look for?

Apreciate'cha.

Looks like the toe is off, which would be the tie rods. Could be bent tie rods or bent control arms. If you replaced the control arms on one side you need to replace them on the other.

There's your problem, cheap made in China parts from Autozone.

Most likely the sub frame has been tweeked so the only quick way and probably the cheapest way is to install some adjustable camber plates.

Thanks I'll look into it.

Also - would you think the strut (if damaged) can cause this tilt?

Yes. A bent strut can cause change in the camber. Put a straight edge on the body and see what it looks like.

You can pull the crash pins at the top of the strut (unscrew them) to get a little camber taken out (there's a smidge of adjustment each way once the crash pin is taken out).

In the future, get Lemforder or Meyle parts when you replace suspension bits. I only use Autozone supplies like brake cleaner...
