Wacky Whitey

My wife is driving my white 01 down the expressway when the four way flashers come on and the doors start locking and unlocking. Did it three times today, and now the flasher and door lock switches on the console won't work. is this ode related? Is the car warning of german auto-geddon? Mechanic said maybe an airbag code?
Please respond, backup E30 broken.
2001 E53 200K
Thanks

Interested in what this turns out to be. I remember my e39 had some serious electrical gremlins when the ignition switch was going out.

Mr Bentley seems to think I know where the flasher relay is because I can't find it in my$89 book. Anybody know where it is?

Is it not part of the switch itself?

It's in the electrical section under exterior lighting.

my e39 had the same problem. did this all the time. had to pull over and turn it off and then turn it back on. only difference was my trans would go into limp mode also at the same time. turned out to be the abs control module shorting out or something. ended up replacing the trans and abs module and it fixed the problem

Isn't the "old" flasher relay incorporated into the LCM...along with the "old" crash module?

The debut & proceeding iterations of the LM/LCM/LCM 3/LCM 4 & how multiple components (relays/fuses/etc) were combined into one unit:
