That's what I asked him... CarMax offered him a number for the truck much higher than what most private buyers would pay, all things considered. I suspect CarMax will get ahold of the car and it will end up at the auctions and some shady buy-here-pay-here lot will end up with it.

Welcome to "old cars". The price just falls away every year, especially as most of the posts are about what wrong with my X5 today!
I think we are at the 4th and final owner stages where price is the only factor. V8 or 6 that is as far as most non educated buyers are looking. Hence the price drops off. Pipe Dream: Hey, I have a nice CLEAN 2004 4.8is, 59K, Needs nothing. Fresh detailing done on Sunday. Sitting under cover in driveway as it might rain today. Make me an offer over $25K!
