Another X5 3.0 Trans issue

I have officially run out of ideas. My 2003 X5 3.0i with a GM trans is throwing a code. 2nd gear incorrect. If I completely bypass 2nd (throw it in sport and shift from 1st to 3rd, it works fine. In normal drive it'll rev until you let off then shift, but it'll eventually shift from first and bang into second, then it goes into trans limp mode and throws the code. Sometimes it will do it from second to third. I have changed the solenoids and the tcm and I am fresh out of ideas other than the trans itself.

A little back story about when it started. I did what I was told not to do. It was an awesome truck and helped me move twice. It has 186xxx on it and I felt like being good to it and changing all of the fluids.... including the trans fluid and filter. And thats when it all started.

Any thoughts or ideas? I really don't want to replace the trans but if thats the only option...

Thanks in advance.

Did you follow the procedure for filling the trans with ATF?

Did you let the car sit overnight before filling the trans so that all the fluid including those in the Torque Converter had a chance to cool down?

Did you monitor the temperature of the trans fluid while you were refilling the trans?

Did you recheck the level of the tran fluid?

If you answered no to any of the questions above your trans could be low on ATF. Driving around with the trans low on fluid isn't good for the trans.

Could be the pressure control valves in the pump or the valves in the valve body. Valves body can be removed with the trans in the car, but to replace the pump valves the trans has to come out.

You can email Gary Ferraro, this youtuber who posted this video about the pump valves in a BMW 5L40E trans.

If the problem is with second gear, and only second gear, then your 2nd clutch sprag may have failed. Are you able to select 2nd gear in Manual mode (i.e. when the 2nd clutch sprag is by-passed by the 2nd coast clutch)
