e39 climate control in '02 x5?

I'm having a hard time finding a 12 pin climate control for my X5 build date 02/02.

Would the electronic e39/m5 units with 12 pins work? They look the same just don't know about the dimensions.

I know there's a ton of e53 units in Sweden, but it's already HOT.

The dimensions are the same. The only thing I'd suggest is to look for one that has a "software" (SW:_ _) number that is close to yours. Also be prepared to "code" the IHKA if its not functioning properly (code it to your car's ZKE).

The MID and IHKA/IHKR control panels have the same dimensions in the e39 & e53. But the early e39s had the REST button...then later...the IHKA modules with the MAX buttons debuted. These new modules with the MAX button...also run a different software...which allows them to run the MAX programming...as well as run the solar sensor that was added.

So again, if looking for an IHKA control panel from an e39...make sure it has the same button configuration as your X5's (w/MAX button)...and look for the software nbr located on a label on the backside...and go for one that is close to yours so that you won't have any issues due to different coding/software.

Good luck.

EXAMPLE: you can see the software nbr in the image below from an e39's IHKA module {its SW:63 (P)}

I swapped the climate control in my 04 X5 with one from an E39. The part number was totally different, but both had a max button. According to all information I could find the 2 part numbers were not compatible re retrofitting.

When I first put it in it didn't work correctly (blowing out of the wrong vents). I then downloaded the software from the original climate control (with PAsoft) and then copied that to the new climate control and it works perfectly. You can do the same with NCS Expert.

If you find the unit doesn't function correctly, you may need to flash the software.
