E53 roof rail delete

Just deleted my roof rails on my 2006 x5. Everything unbolts from the outside.
Once the rails and hardware is off, your left with 10 holes through the body. It takes 8- 11/16 plugs and 2- 5/8 plugs purchased from Lowes, paint to match, put a little silicone on them and pop them in the holes. wipe the excess silicone off and they look factory.
Extremely easy.

Thanks, I will add this one to the "things to do" this summer. Have any images or part numbers of the plugs you used from Lowes?

No pics yet, the plugs are plastic pop in's found in the specialty bins, either black or white. I used the white ones being my truck is silver.

Here's a couple shots of my delete with color matched plugs. IMO the roof rail delete has to be seen in person to appreciate how good it looks. With the rails gone and the roof vented it looks really nice. You can also reverse if you are not happy. I'm in MoCo if you want to check it out. But, IMO you will be happy!!!

Thanks Tom a.k.a MrbmwX5

I would cringe if those were factory implemented roof rack hole caps. Yikes!!!

I'd be interested to hear what your MPG increase is after a few weeks of driving with the rails deleted!
