Bluetooth pairing but no audio--ready to break it

I have a 2004 X5 E53 that I successfully swapped out my late 2003 TCU that only had Assist, for a late 2004 TCU that had assist and bluetooth. I was able to pair it successfully and it even loads my directory onto the NAV screen. After three months of working it quit. I then noticed my audio on the stereo quit too. I found under the spare a bunch of water and i was curious if it affected the radio module back there. Anyway I puled out the 10 amp fuse for the radio module and presto the stereo audio started working again. I have not been able to get the audio back on the telephone. It pairs and dials out fine , I just don't have audio. I am baffled. All the fuses are fine. The only thing I can think of is, I didn't locate or deal with some mention about a SES jumper. I have read that this has to be installed to get audio and I didn't pursue it as everything was working fine. IS it possible the water affected the radio amp? If that was the case then I wouldn't have stereo audio right? Any way I am ready to break it into fifteen pieces just to feel better..lol...Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you have water in your spare tire well, you could very well have water where the amplifier is, and yes, it can affect your phone audio.

Thanks for the reply. The water was under the battery and it wasnt that much. Any idea how to troubleshoot it with a voltmeter? I figured if the radio amp was done i wouldnt have any audio.

Have you looked in the left compartment where the amplifier resides? From what I understand, water can get into this area (leaky taillight seals, or sunroof drain?) and foul the amplifier, which sits down in the bottom. I believe the telephone module feeds the amplifier directly, so your problem is likely confined to this area, and not where the battery resides.

Is the amplifier under the cd changer behind where the tcu mounts to? I checked there and there is no water. I wonder if it has a built in fuse. I did take out the 10amp fuse in the radio module behind the battery to get the radio working but this no audio from the telephone even though everything else works, has got me stumped. Anybody know what powers the audio from the telephone? Would it be the same amplifier ?

Yes, the amp is under the cd changer. No built in fuse on the amp. The audio for the phone does use the same amp as the radio. The phone audio has its own input, and after thinking about it, I do believe is run through the radio module which does the switching.

When listening to the radio and making a phone call, does the radio audio mute?

Yes it does mute. I see everything as i sbould on the nav screen..call, phonebook...just no audio. Should i look at the connections to the radio module? I even ran Rheingold and Dis57 and checked the telephone and radio ecu and settings and nothing came up.

Definitely check the connections at the TCU and the radio module.

This might help: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...formation.html

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated. I had already checked the tcu, ill double check the radio module. From the info you sent i guess i should check at x13649 plug
Pin No. / Wire Color / Function

6 / White-Black / Phone audio + Positive.

Ill check for continuity but any idea where this wire is coming from?

I don't have any references at hand, but the phone audio should come from the TCU mounted on the same bracket with the amplifier.
