Blower works intermittently.

Help!

The blower on my 2001 X5 3.0D will work fine for a few minutes and then it will cut out. It then starts again after a while only to cut out again later. Oddly, it sometimes seems to kick in when I open and close a window.

I have this problem both when using air con (which is nicely cold when working) and when using the heater so I suspect it's not related to temperature.

I've not checked much as yet but with the temperature hitting close to 30, it's time to get it sorted.

Anyone have any ideas?
