Inlet Camshaft Control B1 and B2

2002 X5 4.4. The SAV was running great before I did the timing chains and guides. I had all the proper alignment tools, cam locks, and sensor wheel alignment tool, etc. 35 years working as a backyard mechanic some years in a shop, with 1 test away from being a ASE Master Mech.

I have not driven it yet.
Went to start it today and it started but ran rough. Turned it off and found I didn't plug the #5 coil in. Plugged it back in and started again, still ran rough for about a minute then smoothed back out. The the light was on so checked the codes with my icarsoft i910. Code 21 and code 22, Function, inlet camshaft control banks 1 and 2. Cleared the codes and light still on with codes 21 and 22. If I let it sit for about 1/2 hour it is very hard to start but eventually does. If I do a restart it fires right up. It has a hesitation and the RPM's fluctuate up and down a bit just off idle. After I bring it up to 1K or more it is smooth.

From what I've been reading, the cam sensor wheels are adjusted wrong. I used the proper tool to align them. Should I take it out for a ride to see if it clears up or realign the sensor wheels? Or suggestions?
