No, not normal. Are you sure it is PS fluid?

Yes, I have a spare rack from my 05 4.8 and I looked inside where the boot cover and all I see is what looks like a Teflon seal. There is no play of the racking I hold the tie rod assembly and pull in and out or up and down

So the fluid is coming out the end of the power steering rack?

You need to repair or replace the steering rack. The seals are not doing their job of retaining the PS fluid in the rack.

You won't like the price of a new rack, find a used one if you need one. May not need to replace it immediately.

Prior to taking it apart were you seeing PS fluid on the ground or did you have to refill the fluid at frequent intervals? Any fluid blown back on the suspension?

No previous signs of fluid leaking on floor. Only realize this when I released the clamp from the boot. So that amount of fluid has slowly leaked and was in the boot.

I figured the rack was begin to go out, I think since the leak perhaps just started I may have at least 10k more miles before it get really get worst to show fluid on the floor.

I plan on getting a rebuilt rack from ZF, don't want to put a used rack and not know its condition. Too much work for that.

I wished they sold a rebuilt kit for the rack

Thanks Ted

"Rack Doctor" rebuilds them at a reasonable price. Mine failed inspection due to this sort of leak and off it went to the rack Doctor... Still working fine 3-4 years now.

I would try some ATP 205 before replacing the rack. What have you got to loose?
