Why have these Bolts gotten so expensive?
They are the 6 bolts that hold that support plate. They are one time use bolts. On RealOem, they are like 4 bucks for one. But retail they are like 16 bucks. And Im reading som post where you could get a whole set for under 25 dollars. what happen....

A buddy over in England uses an indy there. The indy bought one new bolt, measured it and took it back. He now grinds down the old bolts to meet the length requirements and puts them back in when it calls for these "special" bolts. He keeps a book with all the bolt specs for future use.

Just go to Ace as I did and you can get 10.9 grade Bolts, nuts and washers for around $25. I've had them on for a while now with no issues.

540san, do you torque them the same as what BMW wants you to do?

I re-use these 6 bolts a few years ago. Zero issues.
Don't waste your money on new bolts. These bolts are big like wheel lugs, they are very strong and there is no need to replace them, even if the books says so. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...se-fluids.html

I have yet to read WHY they are one time use. Everyone gets all excited about replacing them, but I do not see any structural reason other than holding the f'n skid plate on! I looked at them, they are big and strong, and either under tension or shear they should be plenty strong. Re-used mine and it has been months and my engine/front end has not fallen off yet. Will let everyone know when it does....

I also ordered a new set of these, I then posted on here that I was going to replace only to get the feedback that if they where not over torqued or stretched then they would be fine and to save my pounds (as Sterling is plummeting!) So I did and I am happy about it. All fine and dandy for me.

I know the book says one-and-done.
It's either tight and not allowing movement, Or it's loose. I feel no need to replace every time.
