If you are 6' or taller, and drive with the thigh support extended, it's obvious why the sport seats are more comfortable.

The lower seating surface is around 22" long (front edge to seatback). That's living room couch size thigh support (to the knee).

While shopping for used E53s at BMW dealers, a few dealership employees commented that tall customers seem to find the sport seats the choice for comfort. Tall customers complained about numb butts and sharp pain/cramps in lower legs when comfort seats were in their E53s.

^True. I'm 6'8" and usually find sport seats much more comfortable. That said, I've been very pleased with the comfort seats in the 4.8is and found them perfectly comfortable on 12+ hour drives. The heated aspect really helps with this.

The sport seats are heated in cold climate optioned E53s. I think I've used them twice in 5 yrs.

I know. I'm looking for a set on an X5 with aero package so I can swap a bunch of stuff. Thought I had one today... but was too slow to call the seller. It sold this morning.

I use the seat heaters... almost every time I am in the X5. Seriously. Even in our 105 degree summer heat. I played a ton of sports growing up (some better than others) and still play volleyball and tennis. Currently, tennis at a fairly competitive level. My back has been beaten up (I'll probably need surgery in the not-so-distant future) and the seat heaters really help loosen and alleviate pain in the lower back area. Heated seats are really a must have for me. I'm even looking for a set to retrofit into my e30 convertible at some point.

I've got my two kids already. Lowering the sperm count is just an added benefit of the seat heaters now. LOL
