Cigarette lighter socket replacement

Anybody know how to get the front cigarette lighter out?

Mine is loose and it comes up about a 1/2" before it gets blocked by the wiring harness.

Tried removing the shift boot and reaching under but didn't work.

Any ideas?

Hopefully doesn't involve removing the whole console for this fix

The lamination ring has little bumps on the sides that stops it from coming all the way up and falling out. If you stand on your head and get down real close you can see them.

Removing this ring takes longer than any other project. Small flat blade screw driver is what is required to pop it loose.

will I need a new ring for retention,
Or just a new socket?

Which piece is actually responsible for holding the unit in place?

Thx!
