I dipped the chrome surrounds of my kidney grilles.

The only prep I did was making sure the surface was clean, and wiping it down with alcohol.

That was more than a year ago, maybe two. Holding up very well.

Good tip by g300d, just make sure the surface is clean.
Dip will stay on well

wonderful, thanks. I've never painted chrome before so just wanted to make sure a different way to prep was needed.

g300d I'm doing the same but I'll be adding a lil something extra

Bulldog Bite is one of the best products on the market for prepping chrome/plastic for finishing.

Interesting. I had no problems with it not sticking last time I used it which was on hood vents of the grand cherokee I had.

Never stated it would not stick.

Pointing out that an adhesion promoter will provide maximum adhesion/best results.

Posted to provide that info for those who strive for "best" results.

Does it make sense to use something like this with PlastiDip? The whole point of dip is that it can be peeled off when it no longer looks good or if you change your mind. In fact, one of the things you need to "do it right" with PlastiDip is to put it on thick enough (with multiple coats) so that when you want to peel it off, it will stick together, to itself, making an easy, clean release from the underlying real paint.

I have no doubts that that adhesion promoter would be good for "real" paint. I know the title of this thread says "paint," but it seems that the discussion is about PlastiDip.

I would assume that somehow as it prepares the surface for real paint, the adhesion product will do something that is not easily removeable / reversible.

Right?
