I do the key thing too.

I also wait until the steering wheel gets into position prior to starting, wait the 10 secs or so until the SII display clears after starting before turning anything on in the vehicle (alternator output ramp up time), only then do I put the X in gear to drive off (the 10 or 15 secs of idle also allows for "no load" oil circulation in the motor/trans).

Prior to shut down....
Turn off AC (with fan running) around 1 minute before parking (warms up evap coil, minimizes dripping on front DS spline), all electrical item turned off when parked, then around 5 secs of idle before shutdown.

It seems to make a difference, the X has OE alternator and 3rd battery (13 yrs/200k miles).

And NOBODY but me turns a wrench on it.

No valet too (drives the CEO nuts).....

Besides the key in Ignition that most of us do I do a quick detail & vacuum all the dust out of the interior after each drive and wipe the car down (or wash it depending on the dust dirt level) and recover it. I close all the storage bins, blinds, etc. This way the X stays PERFECTLY clean for the next drive.

Oh, and she gets hooked up to the battery minder if she sits more than 24 hrs. I also wash under the hood and dry it off every time she is washed.....

That's one I forgot, it goes on the float charger when not driven for 3 days or longer.

And the steering wheel has to be ABSOLUTELY straight when parked... with the front tires straight as well... sooo strange... wow.

Resale.....

I do this on more than one car every time they are driven. Most of the time it is just pull the driver's side floor mat, shake, and reinstall, DONE.
Keeping everything clean is easy as I work out of my home office a few days per week, so the cars go no where. You can eat off everything I own even the Minivan dog transport/travel device. It gets washed and detailed every week as the little bastard keeps leaving white fur on the dash when we drive thru McDonalds. That and a little drool on the console while waiting for his fries.

With this face who wouldn't give in?
