Thread chasers are toughened steel - the threads in my exhaust were jammed with old bits of the removed O2 sensor and rust - there was no way an old spark plug would have cleaned them - and they only cost a tenner or so.

You could make a thread chaser from a spark plug by cutting 3/4 slots (basically making it into a tap) that said I changed my rear 1 O2 and I bought a real thread chaser and the 7 piece kit of sensor sockets and it's very nice. The chaser fit inside one of the sockets so I can store in the case.

Didn't say to use a Spark Plug to chase the thread, I just stated that the 02 sensor threads are the same as a spark plug. This FYI was just to let people know what type of thread chase or Tap they should buy.
