Oil appetite

My 01, 210K, recently had the crankcase ventilation as well as all other components on the intake manifold replace. Purrs like a kitten. Prior to work it used about a quart of oil for 1000 miles. For six weeks after the work it used no oil, I was a happy man. Last two weeks I had to add oil twice, quart each time. No puddles. Using Amsoil Euro 0W40. Any opinions on what might cause this? Planning to ask mechanic who did the work, and planning a west coast road trip.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Mike

How do the plugs look? How about the intake? Need to figure out where the oil is going.

Going to do the CCV on my wife's M54 X3 in the near future (has ~103,000 on her). Currently uses about <1 quart every oil change (~5500 mile). So, I'm interested in seeing why yours uses so much now.

Intake should be good , had it off for CCV replacement. Gonnahave the mechanic that did it look it over. Maybe something came apart on his dime. Plugs been in service for a long time. Let ya know what happens.

I have two thoughts on this:

1. It would be rare and unfortunate, but my dealer told me BMW did manufacture a bad batch of CCV valves for the M54 and as a result some new ones can be defective.

2. There is an updated oil dipstick tube that goes along with the CCV kit as it drains back into the oil pan via the dipstick tube. My E39 530i (M54 3.0) had a clogged dipstick tube, which absolutely must be cleaned out when the CCV kit is installed.

Hope it helps!
