You have an '03 M62 motor Plattus1000, BMW built these engines with redesigned/longer chain tensioners.

I'm over 200k miles on OE guides.

I recall you posting this once or twice on this .....
I redid mine - same year, just to be proactive about it.
Isn't the root cause the plastic guides though - age...
It seems like forever. When I removed mind, the guides were not shot but the plastic was brittle

Also keep in mind the quality of oil and frequency of oil changes highly effects the guides going brittle and breaking. My brother's M62 in his 540 6-speed has 240K on original guides. He always does his oil changes between 4-5K miles with Motul Synthetic.

Time bomb. Our guides let go @ 170k don't fool yourself. The longer tentioner is the lower plunger and it has a spring that compresses and oil to extend it but like everything, wears out.

Do your guides now not after they force the need.
