Tuning?

Looking to get my X tuned. Any ideas for the best one or top three?

I know there's Active Autowerk but just wanted to know if there's anything else out there. Main reason is to get rid of the SES due to headers and lack of O2 sensors but if I can get everything all in one then why not.

Currently in Minot, ND but I'll be down in San Angelo, Tx starting Feb so thinking about waiting until I'm down there to get it done.

If you are just looking to fix some codes, you can do it yourself with the right $15 INPA cable and free software.

If you actually want to "tune" and edit tables, you can do that too, but you need to start reading. I recommend this: Biggest MS43 tuning thread ever! Incl software... - E46Fanatics

If you want to get a mail order tune, buy a second DME on the Bay, crack the EWS and send it off to someone.

The state of the art in M54 tuning on M5S4 seimens is actually still evolving, but that is all happening in the E46 community. Just keep in mind, they are generally aiming for high revs and their cars weigh half a ton less.

That's the starting point I would use for everything you are asking about.

BTW, oil industry redeployment?

Thanks for the info, I'll look into that option if feasible.

And it's military training.

I am going to start putting together the equipment and software to tune myself, but I am going to keep reading the stuff over there about put DME and probably even get a spare to screw up. If you want to tune for your mods, an off the shelf tune may or may not help that much. In reading about tuning m54, it doesn't seem like BMW left a ton if hp or torque on the table in the stock tune, but people say there is a little to be had there even before mods.

Did you port match your headers?

There aren't to many reasons to be in Minot or San Angelo...I'd guess those aren't really the top two. Good time to leave ND though.
