It is a pain to change and you have to have the new unit programmed by someone with a BMW tool. My indy has one so he programmed it after I changed it.

I am quite positive myself that a replacement is inevitable, I just wanted to rule this one last thing out before I try and remove it again....I've failed miserably every attempt, can't get the rod to push into the floor :/

I ran the telescoping steering all the way toward the floor then held the connection in place with a screwdriver braced against a steel piece under the dash, then ran the telescoping steering all the way out. Came right out. Oh, and the clamp bolt has to be completely removed.
