Acceleration Delay After Cold Start

I have a 2003 BMW X5 3.0i and I've noticed that after a cold start the car doesn't accelerate initially. The engine will rev up, but theres no forward momentum but after a few moments the car will eventually start going forward. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem, or can help me determine what the problem is? Thanks!
