X53 diagnostic computer

Hi, some help please.
I purchased from eBay an OBD/USB cable with K+DCAN (INPA compatible interface). This came with a programme on a disc INPA V5.01, INPA V5.02 and includes Driver_D_CAN_USB
I am running Windows 7 Home edition
I would like the programme to read my E53 2001 and E61 2009.

I have tried loading the programme, but kept coming up with faults. I feel the programme was not set up for Windows 7??

I put the files directly to C drive, then put the EC-APPS directly to C drive. Went through set up 1,2,3 but had a problem with drivers.

Eventually got it on the computer, but it will not talk to the cars.

Maybe I need to start again, but I'm not sure the programme is compatible with my windows 7??

Any assistance will be greatly received!
Can someone give me a link to a working programme please?
Thanks

Paul

I'm not familiar with Windows 7 myself as I use XP on an old Dell Latitude laptop.
What I do find though which may help you somewhat is that INPA won't communicate with the car from time to time. On this laptop I have 4 USB ports and find if I change the port it usually starts working again (Normally I close INPA prior to this).A bit of a long shot I admit but always worth a try.

Thanks eckbmw for the reply.
The info I received stated to use the same USB port as settings had to be changed for this port, so I haven't tried other ports.

When the computer and cable a plugged in, the battery and ignition lights are on the programme.

When I try to select an item on the menu the error codes come up - file not found.......

Talking

i've been using inpa for a while and you have to set the adapter to com1
and latency timer to 1
i wrote this a while ago to use with win10 win 7 should be the same

well i got dis working finally on win 10 something that was over looked
1st the OBD.INI file that is in the c"windows folder had com6 instead of com1
in the c:/ediabas/bin directory it was fine showing com1 but not in windows folder. i change it to com1.then also in c:/ediabas/bin/ediabas.ini file. i made a changes to this line=; Interface
; Description : Connected diagnosis interface
; Default = EDIC
; Interface = STD:OBD

; Additional information (in German) :
; Bitte beachten: Der HW-Treiber fuer das Interface muss installiert sein!

When you say that the battery and ignition lights are on the programme I would assume they are blackened which suggests INPA is in communication with the car. When you get error codes are they along the lines of IFH-008 for example maybe followed up by a dialogue box opening asking whether you still want to run a script or not.The only surefire way of knowing there is communication is the blackening out of the two multi pointed symbols for ignition on (Top of the screen). No multi pointed symbols blacked out means no communication with car. IFH errors either mean a particular ECU module is not installed (or possibly faulty) or the cable is not making suitable contact between car and reading device.I posted elsewhere on this forum earlier on today regards an error message I had and how I had a spare cable which corrected my particular issue. These cables are ten a penny on the internet but there is no guarantee they will work all or even some of the time. The software can be perfectly OK but nine times out of ten the cables are the problem.I've been there done it and bought the T-shirt and have only found out by experience what cable is fit for purpose. The cable I used today was the blue one with matching blue cable which done the trick for me. It's a bit of a minefield with cables as for example the cable that worked fine on my 8 series (white one) didn't seem to co-operate with E53. A pain in the backside indeed but that's the joys of BMW ownership. Don't give up though as the cost savings can be tremendous once you suss out what is best for your motor.

AFAIK INPA is made for a DB9 serial port and windows XP so there is a lot of "fudging" needed. The battery and ignition signals will never show actual readings using a USB adapter. I haven't used BMW Scanner 1.4 but I have spent a stupid amount of time getting a diagnostic system working for my car so I think upallnight is right.
