seatbelts stick on the b pillar bracket. what can i do please?

i have a 2004 3ltr x5.
the seat belts do not retract in the front. i have taken the b pillar covers off, and the top loop on the b pillar seems to stop the smooth action. if i un ravel the belt it retracts fine, but anything past the top loop on the b pillar struggles.
what can i do please.

I have this issue too - I read that a very thorough clean of the entire length of the belt should sort it. Pull the entire belt out, and soak/scrub it in/with a neutral cleaner (don't use anything that will perish the belt fibres!), then leave it out until totally dry.

Apparently, the build up of grime in the belt fibres cause it to stick to the slider where it runs into the B-pillar.

to sort this i pulled the belts out all the way, sprayed them with silicon spray, pulled the belts in and out. then cleaned with a cloth. they're like brand new now.

Silicon Spray/WD40 .

Seatbelts are a integral component of what's going to help you walk alway or not from a accident.

How about some plain jAnE H20 and see if it alleviates the issue.
My particular method is to use a upholstery extractor on it, only on the portion that will be exposed when buckled, buckle it it, pull it out of the garage and let it hang out in the sun.

One more thing to note off the top of my head.

Have you done any work recently. The B Pillar is held on by some clips...
If it's not secured just right, sometime the interfacing/rolling of the seatbelt makes it not smooth as the B Pillar cover is not snapped on proper.

I am pretty sure that both WD40 and silicone will do more harm to whatever wardrobe you chose to wear when driving, than you would like.

I will be going the 'scrub with natural soap/cleaner'-way myself. It seems a lot more reasonable to remove the unwanted gunk from the seat belt, than to add more stuff.

Clip the belts extended all the way with a binder clip.

Wrap the head of your steamer with an MF towel and get the gunk off naturally. Leave them extended till they dry. A lot safer IMO
