Is the moonroof dependent on the tempersture and rain sensors to open?

Interesting issue. My moonroof will only tilt when I press the button to go back, even slide the sunshade back.
Now I know it's not a bad cassette, because I can do the button initialization and it goes the full cycle. I can open it via the courtesy option on the fob or key in the door, but when the car is on and I try to open it normally, it will only tilt. It worked fine all summer after I first initialized it when it. It is currently in the 50s and sometimes I either like to just have the sunshade open or open a little bit. It's also kind of wet, but I haven't tried this when it's raining.
Is there something wrong or is this a fail-safe that BMW put in? I know the newer convertibles won't put down thebtop if the temp is too low, is this similar?
I have initialized it twice since I noticed it not opening.

Mine opens in the cold. I have opened it to adjust snowboard bindings occasionally while on the way too/from the hill.

Mine opens when raining or snowing also...I do it many times during winter for the same reason as joshdub.

Hmmm, maybe something wrong with the switch then. I'm going to try to reinitialize it again, both times were back back, maybe after its power cycled it will have different results.

Have you lost power (disconnected the battery) in between these times it worked then stopped working?

If so, that could be the problem. Any time power is disconnected...the sunroof/pano roof requires reinitiaization:

Well I found out what it was, the hard way.
I found that if I pushed down on the corner of the main roof, it would go back and not vent. I thought this was some type of sensor issue. It was, in a sense, but the sensor was right.
We jusf had a snow/ice storm. I wanted to drive with the sunshade back, but it kept going to vent, even with me pushing it down. During this, a little bit of ice fell in between the panels. The front was able to close fully, but the read did not. Reinitializing it did not work, even after the ice was cleared.
It turned out that the reason I had the problem to begin with, is that the rod/cable that pushes the rear ramps back to close the roof was broken/nearly broken. The entire thing was seized up. I pushed the ramps back with a screwdriver to close the back panel. I tries reinitializing again now that it could fully close. The rear section tilts up and the ramps move forward. They however no longer move back. I pushed them back again and tested the main panel/sunshade. Perfect. Just the rear panel is screwed as is typical for our pano roofs. I just looked up how to disable the rear panel and will pull the screws in the morning. I got done ubering around 2am, it's 3:30 now. I remembered the rear panel was still up and got to work closing it. It's still raining and sometimes snowing. I didn't want anymore moisture to get in than already has since this afternoon when it broke.
I'll live with just the front roof than shell out tons of money to fix ths rear section. I like it, my wife could care less and hardly uses it. So if I'm happy with it is all that matters.
I just wanted to post an update. It wasn't an initialization issue, it was the rear section going out.
