I think a lot of these have flipped into the third or fourth owners hands who drive them until death meets up with their lack of maintenance and ownership experience. Buy 'em cheap and drive...... After all they are fully depreciated by now. Residual value only on most of X53 now. Real shame as I love mine.
In the auto world they are called final owners.  Even the 3.0 models with a few tweaks, they look great, run well, and provide a great value for the investment in effort to keep them up and running. But the buying public wants "new" not an old car.
