oh way past bamboozled.....
![]() Now, I got busy and never re-set the service light and it was on maybe 250 miles and just went off on it own. I did a smoke test with a cigar and Harbor Freight pump - no intake leaks, it even held pressure - I blew in the tube then clamped it closed. Still cant figure out that vac. line from the fuel filter to the intake boot. If just turning the key it should hold pressure at the rail - it would be regardless of that vac. line since the car its not running??? It must be the combination of the return line that holds pressure?? I left the splash plate off. Tomorrow starting 2017 I will look around at the fuel lines going to what I think it the charcoal vapor tank??

You are correct, a problem with the vacuum lines will not let the fuel pressure leak down regardless if the engine is not running. They can affect the fuel trim though with the engine running. The fuel pressure leaking down can cause a hard starting problem and if it is caused by a leaky check valve in the fuel pump a lot of people just live with it rather than spending the money to replace the pump which us otherwise probably good. I have in the past (on other vehicles) installed an in-line check-valve as a bit of a band-aid solution and proof of diagnoses. A leaking check valve would not affect your fuel trim though. Keep us posted!

I did replace the fuel pump as maintenance and hopping it would correct my hard start when the eng. was warm.
I only replace the pump itself, is the check valve outside of the electric pump?

I'm not 100% sure but usually it is in the pump. Maybe someone else can verify ?? You did say you checked the injectors right ?

When you replaced the fuel pump did you perhaps mix up the fuel lines? One is a return and one is a feed. If you are not sure, reverse the lines and do the key on engine off test with the fuel gauge and see if the pressure remains after you turn the key off.
