New Member could use some guidance

Hey everybody here with my first BMW 03 x5 3.0 I could use a lot of help. This truck was neglected badly as it was my best friends . He bought it as a project while battling cancer and lost his battle last week, before he did I think he knew and asked if I would buy it off him and I did 105 on the clock the interior was shot...window tracks off, busted passenger window broken wheel adjustment lever, needs rear control arms, and a bunch of other stuff, I replaced a lot , but I got a long way to go...Recently I replaced the blower motor and put everything back now I can't get the key out of the ignition and into the off position.... I'm learning not a fan of the hard way, that's why I am here to restore it to the way he would have wanted it as a dedication to him... Any help would be great.... Ray

I have a passenger side door window. I also live in Chicago which isn't that far from Indiana. Shoot me an offer if you are interested in the window.

Make sure the gear selector is in P otherwise you won't be able to remove the key.

Welcome to the forum - sounds like you have a big job ahead of you. I won't presume to interpret your situation - your friend, your grieving process, your enjoyment of automotive projects - but I would put a lot of thought into how to approach this. From what you've posted it sounds like this will be a lengthy and expensive process for a vehicle with a lot of sentimental value but not much else (I love 'em, but '03 3.0s are fairly common and inexpensive).

I fully support auto projects and labors of love. I get the learning, community building, and sentimentality. I just recommend you do your planning early and thoroughly so you know what you're getting into and make an informed decision on how/if to proceed. I can't imagine much would feel worse than getting half way into a project like this and realizing you don't have the will, knowledge or money to move it forward. So plan early, plan thoroughly, build a budget, etc. I work in Project Management and if done right you usually end up with half or more of your total time spent planning and preparing. After that doing the work is easy.

All that said, when you're ready I have a set of 20" Style 168s I have debated selling. Not sure the shipping logistics from Seattle but you can feel free to PM me if you're interested.
