Climate Control dead- Fuse #48 keeps blowing
Its the middle of winter and my climate control has died. Defrost is an important feature, trust me on that. LOL 2001 BMW X5 with 4.4 Fuse #48 is popping. I replaced the 7.5 fuse with another 7.5 and the control head turned on, then immediately popped the fuse. Looking at what else is connected to the #48 circuit it mentioned heated headlamp washers. I've done the 'take the control head out and use compressed air to clean it and the sensors' and it didn't help. So, trying to unplug whatever else might be causing it to pop so I can isolate the issue. Does anyone have a pic of the connector(s) that need to be unplugged to isolate the control head? Its cold, and I need to get this fixed asap... appreciate your help and any suggestions you may have!

I guess these are the two other draws on #48. -The 2 high draw components on F48 are the dual water valves and the aux wp
Does anyone know if unplugging either would harm the vehicle?

Found issue
Went through and unplugged everything on the fuse 48 circuit and it was the aux water pump. Everything seems to work fine with it unplugged.

Good diagnostics on your solo thread. The aux water pump helps move coolant through the heater cores when the motor is turning slow. With it not running you'll probably find it won't heat the car very well unless the revs are up on the engine.

You will be fine without the AP. I don't know for sure about what Audio said in relation to the pump circulating while at idle speed, but I do know it is used when the car is off and you hit the MAX button and have heat while the car is off for a predetermined amount of time. Just fix it when you get a chance. No harm at all

Thanks for both of your input.
Now... off to figure out why my suspension level inactive warning is on..

Check to make sure the sensors are hooked to the little arms connected to the suspension first. Sometimes they rust and break. I always spray mine with lubricant when I have wheels off. Check wiring connections, etc. It actually is a simple system. Keep us posted. Lots of info here

a quick google search for my "dead heater control panel display" lead me to this thread and I appreciate it as I wasn't even looking at the A/C fuse when perusing the fuses, but low and behold the fuse 48 was blown for some reason this wintry night.
thanks for starting and finishing your thread.

Well nuts, my fuse 48 keeps blowing randomly when I press the MAX A/C or windscreen defrost button... Interesting.
EDIT: SOLVED - for me, the problem I was experiencing was the climate control panel was fine after #48, 7.5A, fuse replacement with usual operation, just as long as I didn't press the MAX A/C OR the front windscreen defrost button. If I did, instant fuse blown. I replaced my Final Stage Unit/Resistor (no its not fun but its hot that bad either, just got to move a lot of things to access) and after replacing, it works perfect again. I tested heavily before putting vehicle back together. Then cleared faults in DIS 5.7 and away we went
