For facelift diesel auto (6-speed ZF) it's 3.91:1 For facelift diesel 6-speed manual it's 3.23:1.. For pre-facelift diesel 5-speed manual, I think it's 3.07:1. The axle itself may be the same, but I would check part numbers.

After my mechanic said i need new axle shaft i changed both of them. He assured me that axle cause wheel vibration, but after change the shake is still present. He said that shock mount are ok and also stabilisator link are also ok. What can also cause steering wheel shakes...

And i still have shakes, because indy says that top strut mount are ok no crack no play... Sometimes i just want to sell the car, cause it just drive me crazyy, but allways when i sit in the car it brings me smile on my face ![]() |

Nothing should be clunking. May not be anything super bad or anything but no its not normal.
Get someone to turn the wheel while you go hunting for the noise. Should be able to spot what is making the noise.

Yeah clunking is not normal.
Did you try to simply lift both front wheel, take a crowbar and search for play somewhere. All new parts don't mean one can't have a defect. I've also had the case of a failed alignement. Professionally done, seemed good but wasn't perfect. It might be interesting to have another one at another shop and tell them upfront the issue you have so they can check if things stay tight once adjusted. You should also check all parts and make sure nothing seems worn on hasn't been changed. Take a schematic from realoem, etkbmw, ... and mark what has been changed and when and checked and when. |

After a long conversation and explanation from my indy he said that the clunk is normal for the car that with milage on. It is not that bad, because when the engine is on it build the preasure in steering gear and the clunk disaper. That are his words not mine. But i do not know if disapperr or not because i only hear the engine... Maybe the steering gear causes shakes. Dont know....

Simple test.
1. Engine off 2. someone turns wheel causing noise 3. you raise hood 4. starting at the steering shaft from the steering wheel follow the noise You will find what's making the noise. Now it may not be worth fooling with if its nothing serious but you will know where the noise is coming from. Stuff like that drives me nuts so I would at least want to know what was making the noise. But that's me.

I did one test. I hear it from inside the steering gear. But when i press down inner tierod i dont hear it any more. But there is no play in tierod. I hear it that i can stiffent steering gear with one bolt. Maybe i will try it. Dont want to do that cause i do not break the steering gear....
