Replacing Valve Covers : PC : Oil : NOT Gasket

Swung by the Indy to poke his brain. Got this oil leak and he suggest that the it's leaking from the Mag Covers and suggest getting them Powdercoated.

A) Does Mag Covers like being PC. Aka, heat required during powdercoating, any issues with them warping

B) Just short of having pretty covers, anyone replace their VC due to chasing a oil leak...

C) Whaddya say is a fair rate for a set of covers. Found a set on CL

Good day!!

Search function is great and I can honestly say I have learned a ton from using it...

The covers have been "covered" a lot.. This is the most recent that I know of... Great info and I might be doing this very thing very soon!!

Cheers!!!

Saw that thread. That covers Bullet point A....
One could also do paint.....

The Indy recommended PC from a functional perspective of sealing up the mag..

Good question... I haven't seen much on just paint... It is a good idea if it will hold... I think I'll pull a decent set from the PIY the next time I go and experiment... my 4.6is has painted VC's, but it is flaking really bad... I'm not sure what prep was done, if any to the covers...

I'll keep this post in mind when I get the covers and post the results... I'm sure someone will chime in with their results prior to my experiment tho...

EDIT::: I replaced mine when I did the 2001 540i rebuild, but just because the set I had was really "corroded"... The replacements just looked better, not that the others weren't working...

I could pull a set from the PIY and send to you... What are you driving? It's not a bad idea to include your vehicles in the signature block...

Cheers!!!

I had my VC's powder coated on my E38 and now over 1.5 years later and still look great and no leaks. They don't warp when done correctly.

I decided to bite the bullet..
Well, PC aside, I can't believe I'm spending less for 2 Mag VCG than 3 pieces of Interior Trim I decided to replace in the E53!

I would like to get mine coated as well but my X has composite covers, I do have the V8 though. The L6 is probably metal?

The X is on some limited life anyhow and the trim covers on the side and center if redone in some sort of paint/dressing would probably make some more visual impact than the 3x6 area of exposed valve covers you see, ya know...
