"Engine Failsafe Program" issue

Hey everyone,

Just got a EFP message on my console starting my X5 today. No other error codes, no noticeable difference in performance. It didn't stay past starting the car, but it came on again when I shut off the car. OBD and Torque didn't record any other errors and error logs appear empty.

I haven't brought it in for diagnostics or anything yet as it JUST happened. Do i do a MAF cleaning or do I wait to see if the error message pops up again?

Have their ever been instances of this being a false positive for an actual issue? Or is it always an issue of some kind (Electrical or mechanical) and not just something that could go away?

2005 X5 3.0, 107k, 2 year old battery, throttle body hose replaced about 6 months ago. Other than that no other issues.
