Definitive Guide For Central Locking Repair?
Trying to get my remote key fob working for the first time since I purchased this X5 four years ago .lol So at first I thought this was a simple case of a dead battery and even bought a replacement. Upon cutting open the key fob, I measured the battery that was in there and it had great voltage. No problem there. Then I tried a myriad of reprogramming steps to see if the key had just lost its connection to the system and nope, no luck there either. Now I stumbled on a video on YouTube talking about checking the integrity of the powered antenna above the rear window. Just completed that test and it is all good: Red - 12.65 Volts Purple - Good Ground Yellow - 12.05Volts static and it dips when I press the keyfob buttons. Everything the guy in the video said it should do. Now that I have all that confirmed, I am looking for the next step in the chain. Has anyone ever put together a real step-by-step guide to tracking this issue down? A few more details: 1) All of my locks work perfectly. Interior lock button locks and unlocks doors no problem. 2) Tailgate and Filler Door also work perfectly. 3) Key in the door locks and unlocks perfectly 4) LED below mirror does not cycle fast It seems the only part of this that is not covered that I can find is the GM. Not sure how to test that though. UPDATE! I figured it out. Before I forget, this is exactly the way I did it for my 2002 BMW X5, 3.0L 1) Get into vehicle and have all doors closed 2) Leave the doors unlocked 3) Put on seatbelt (don't know if this was necessary or not) 4) Cycle key to POSITION 1 for about 2 seconds (almost exclusively, people say position 2 - this is NOT correct for this truck) 5) Remove key and hold over right shoulder 6) Press and hold the unlock button while pressing the center lock button 3 times in about 1 second increments. 7) Release both buttons and the locks will cycle. BOOM! Done
